Check the ordinary routine

Walk through a day from breakfast to bedtime. Add nappies, wipes, suitable food, comfort items and any personal care supplies you use. Include a familiar activity that works without a screen, such as a book or card game.

Infant feeding needs its own plan

If formula is used, speak to a health professional about preparing safely for loss of power or safe water. Ready-to-feed formula may be useful, but storage and feeding hygiene still matter. Do not dilute formula or improvise preparation methods.

Include pets

Set aside their usual food, drinking water, bowls, leads or a carrier and relevant veterinary information. Keep medicines and feeding instructions with the household plan. Avoid changing an animal’s diet suddenly simply because a product is marketed as an emergency option.

Pack for real people

Choose portions, containers and lights that the people using them can manage. Label items clearly. Ask family members what would make a disruption easier rather than assuming everyone needs the same things.
